DCJ Swears in New Land Commissioners

KAMPALA: The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo, on Monday July 29, 2019 (today), presided over the swearing-in ceremony of new Commissioners of the Uganda Land Commission (ULC).
Among the five Commissioners was the Chairperson, Hon. Beatrice Byenkya. The other members are; Mr Richard Muhoozi,Prof. Nyeko Pen-Mogi, Mr. Asuman Kyafu and Mr. Rukika Bujara.
The new commissioners took two oaths,the Oath of Secrecy and Oath of Allegiance at the ceremony held at the High Court in Kampala and witnessed by the Chief Registrar, HW Esta Nambayo and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Dorcas Okalany.
The Deputy Chief Justice took the new Commissioners through the Uganda land tenure system and acquisition process since 1962. He said the new Commission needed to understand their responsibilities beforehand. The DCJ also urged the Permanent Secretary to create a good working environment for the Commission to ensure timely service delivery.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary thanked the DCJ for swearing in the new Commissioners adding "this has ended a seven-month spell without a land commission".
The Uganda Land Commission manages all public land.
The new ULC Chairperson, Ms Byenkya, on behalf of the other commissioners,pledged to execute their mandate with honesty.
